“In August/September 2014 it became very noticeable that our 6 year old Cairn terrier, Fleur, was becoming very withdrawn and quiet, very clingy, unable to roll and wouldn’t play with her toys. She didn’t’ seem to be ill or be limping in any way, but we decided to have her investigated at the vets. The X-rays showed hip dysplasia in both hip joints which we were so surprised about in a 6 year old terrier. Painkillers seem to help and in October, Fleur was more her old self, but only able to do ten minute walks three times a day. This continued until early January when there was a serious deterioration. Fleur had to be carried in and out to have a wee, she couldn’t sit and needed help to get her food. She had no quality of life and the next step was to have her referred to a specialist to perform hip replacements or …… The vet then said the last resort before this was perhaps to try acupuncture. We contacted our insurance and got the go ahead and Fleur started going to Julie regularly for acupuncture.
We can’t believe the difference it has made. Gradually, Fleur started building up to little walks and the pain relief was reduced. When Julie felt Fleur was stronger and the muscles were working again, we then introduced hydrotherapy as well. We now have a lively 8 year old Cairn, who enjoys life, loves everyone she meets, playing with her toys, barking, running after a ball or a squirrel and walks everyday of about 30-50 minutes. She now has a top up acupuncture session about every 6 weeks.
The difference that acupuncture has made has been incredible and we would recommend it for any dog who has joint problems. We know it doesn’t work for all dogs, but for Fleur, it has given her quality of life back again. Amazing!
Thank you so very much Julie. We are so grateful.”
